Galerie Lelong & Co. is pleased to present a series of Mildred Thompson prints in its inaugural Online Viewing Room. This online presentation coincides with the presentation of Thompson’s work in Frieze Masters: Spotlight where paintings from the Advancing Impluses series were on view. 

In 1973, Thompson created her earliest known series of silkscreens, colorful prints comprised of linear and rectangular forms. This series of work recalls the geometry of her Wood Pictures from the late 1960s and early 1970s rendered in the two-dimensional. Works on paper continued to be fundamental to the artist’s practice throughout her career.

Thompson’s work has received increasing institutional attention in recent years as understandings of abstraction shift to become more inclusive to women artists of color. Currently on view at the Spelman College Museum in Atlanta, Georgia is a solo exhibition of Thompson’s work.
